How much asphalt needed?

How much Hotmix Asphalt is required for your project is quite easy to calculate, you just need to do some simple multiplication.

Estimate the volume of asphalt needed

You have to multiply the length, width and thickness/depth values of your project.

Asphalt needed=Length×Width×Depth

Estimate the weight of asphalt

Estimate the density of the hotmix asphalt to be used. Standard density for asphalt is 145 lb/ft3 (2322 kg/m3).  Multiply the volume by the density (in the same units) to get the weight.

Here is formula:

Asphalt Weight=Volume×145lb/ft3\text{Asphalt Weight} = \text{Volume} \times {145 lb/ft3}

Estimate the cost of asphalt

To calculate the cost of asphalt based on its weight, you need to multiply by cost per unit by total weight.

Use the formula:

Total cost=Weight×Cost\text{Total cost} = \text{Weight} \times \text{Cost}

Example Calculation

Let’s say you have 10 tons of asphalt, and the cost is $80 per ton.

Total Cost=10 tons×$80 Per tone\text{Total Cost} = 10\text{ tons} \times \text{$80 Per tone}

Total Cost=$800\text{Total Cost} = \text{$800}

Several measurement units are compatible for calculations, including inches, feet, yards, meters, and centimeters. Since measurements may not be absolutely precise and some material waste can occur during application, it's advisable to consider purchasing 5-6% more asphalt than your initial calculations estimate.\text{Asphalt needed} = \text{Length} \times \text{Width} \times \text{Depth}
